Target Information

Histones are basic nuclear proteins that, together with DNA, form nucleosomes in eukaryotes. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4.
Methylation of specific histone residues regulates epigenetic transitions in chromatin.

  • Methylation at H3 lysine 4, 36, and 79: associated with gene activation
  • Methylation at H3 lysine 9, 27, and H4 lysine 20: associated with heterochromatin and gene repression

Modified lysine residues can be mono-, di-, or tri-methylated. Histone H3 Lys4 trimethylation (H3-K4me3) marks actively transcribed chromatin.
This antibody specifically recognizes histone H3 tri-methylated at K27 and reacts with mammalian and other species (D. melanogaster, Arabidopsis, Chicken, Xenopus) where this modification is present.
