Target Information

The urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR, also known as PLAUR or CD87) is a key molecule regulating cell-surface plasminogen activation. It plays important roles in both normal physiological and pathological processes.
The human PLAUR cDNA encodes 335 amino acids, including a predicted 22-residue signal peptide and a hydrophobic C-terminal region. It produces a highly glycosylated ~50 kDa protein in monocytes, anchored to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) linkage.
uPAR interacts with the carbohydrate-binding domain of SELL in neutrophil membranes, similar to its association with β2 integrins. PLAUR-mediated calcium mobilization is SELL-dependent.
Increased uPAR mRNA levels correlate with the invasive potential and clinical stage of endometrial carcinomas, showing a 33-fold increase in advanced tumors compared to normal tissue. uPAR protein expression also correlates with recurrence and mortality rates, making it a potential prognostic marker for advanced endometrial cancer.
