Target Information
RPTP gamma, also known as Receptor-type tyrosine-protein phosphatase gamma (PTPRG), is a candidate tumor suppressor gene located on human chromosome 3p14.2–p21, a region frequently deleted in renal and lung carcinomas.
In situ hybridization analysis shows RPTP gamma mRNA expression in specific brain regions, with localization changes during brain development.
RPTP gamma contains:
- An extracellular domain
- A single transmembrane domain
- A cytoplasmic region with two tandem catalytic tyrosine phosphatase domains
The extracellular domain includes a 266 amino acid stretch homologous to carbonic anhydrase (CAH), suggesting that RPTP gamma and RPTP beta (HPTP zeta) form a subfamily of receptor tyrosine phosphatases.
RPTP gamma may have functions beyond metabolic CO₂ hydration catalysis.
