Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. p70 S6 kinase is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and is essential in growth factor-regulated cell proliferation, cell motility pathways (such as metastasis), immune response, and tissue repair. It acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, with its main physiological target being the S6 ribosomal protein, which regulates protein synthesis. The kinase activity of p70 S6 kinase promotes protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification or overexpression of p70 S6 kinase has been observed in certain breast cancer cell lines.
