배경 (Background)
This gene is one of three related genes that have 2-hydroxyacid oxidase activity yet differ in encoded protein amino acid sequence, tissue expression, and substrate preference. The encoded protein localizes to the peroxisome and is expressed primarily in liver and pancreas. It shows highest activity on glycolate, a two-carbon substrate, and is also active on 2-hydroxy fatty acids. High transcript levels detected in pancreas may represent an alternatively spliced form or use of multiple upstream polyadenylation sites (RefSeq, Jul 2008).
