EPHB3는 ephrin 수용체 계열에 속하는 수용체 티로신 키나아제로, 신경계 발달, 혈관신생, 신경 시냅스 형성과 성숙 등 다양한 생물학적 과정에서 중요한 역할을 합니다. Eph 수용체와 ephrin 리간드는 상호 보완적인 발현 양상을 보이며, 발달 및 성체 신경 조직에서 거의 모든 Eph 수용체와 ephrin 리간드가 발현됩니다. Ephs와 ephrins는 혈관신생 과정에서도 중요한 기능을 수행합니다.
