Target Information
A cluster of genes, BAT1–BAT5, has been localized near TNF alpha and TNF beta genes. This gene is mapped near the C2 gene within a 120-kb region that includes an HSP70 gene pair. All are located within the human major histocompatibility complex class III region. Previously thought to be two separate genes (NG36 and G9a), recent publications confirm it is a single gene. The encoded protein is involved in intracellular protein–protein interactions. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, two of which are fully described.
