This antibody detects an 80 kDa protein corresponding to the molecular mass of Synapsin I on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of adult mouse brain.


Target Information

SYN1 (synapsin 1) is a member of the synapsin gene family. Synapsins encode neuronal phosphoproteins associated with the cytoplasmic surface of synaptic vesicles. They are involved in synaptogenesis and modulation of neurotransmitter release, suggesting roles in neuropsychiatric diseases. Synapsin 1 regulates axonogenesis and synaptogenesis and serves as a substrate for multiple protein kinases. Mutations may be linked to X-linked neuronal degeneration disorders such as Rett syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
