Target Information
Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor 1 (HNF1, also known as Homeoprotein LFB3, Transcription factor 2, TCF2, Variant hepatic nuclear factor) is a member of the homeodomain-containing superfamily of transcription factors. It functions as a liver-specific factor within the homeobox-containing basic helix-turn-helix family. HNF1 binds DNA as a homodimer or heterodimer with HNF1-alpha and plays a key role in nephron and pancreatic development. Mutations in the gene are associated with renal cysts and diabetes syndrome, noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, and certain cancers. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
