ELL은 RNA polymerase II 전사 과정에서 일시적 정지를 억제하여 촉매 속도를 증가시키는 super elongation complex (SEC)의 구성 요소입니다. 또한 little elongation complex (LEC)의 구성 요소로, RNA polymerase II 및 III에 의해 수행되는 작은 핵 RNA(snRNA) 유전자 전사를 조절하는 데 필요합니다.
ELL은 SEC 복합체에 조립되기 전 단계에서 RNA polymerase II의 모집 및 개시를 안정화하고, 정지 부위로의 진입을 조절하는 역할을 수행합니다. 이는 전사 개시 복합체 및 초기 신장 단계의 안정화에 필수적입니다.
