TSC22D4는 leucine zipper 전사 조절 인자(TSC22 domain family)의 구성원입니다.
DNA 결합 전사 억제자로 작용하며, 포도당 항상성과 인슐린 감수성 조절에 관여합니다.
OBP2A/LCN13과 같은 인슐린 신호 경로의 하위 표적 유전자를 전사 억제하여 지질 합성 관련 유전자 발현을 억제하고, 간세포에서 초저밀도 지단백(VLDL) 방출을 조절합니다.
또한 신경 돌기 신장 및 생존에 관여할 수 있습니다.
