Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on many stem cell populations. It functions as a stem cell marker with reversible expression in hematopoietic stem cells. CD34 may act as a receptor involved in adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic progenitors. It is also implicated in stem cell attachment to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells, serving as a scaffold for glycans and facilitating interactions with lectins and selectins. The intracellular domain is phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. CD34 dysfunction is associated with dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
