Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on various stem cell populations. It serves as a stem cell marker, with reversible expression in human hematopoietic stem cells. CD34 may function as a receptor regulating adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic and progenitor cells. It is also implicated in mediating stem cell attachment to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells and may act as a scaffold for lineage-specific glycans, enabling binding to lectins expressed by stromal or marrow components. The intracellular domain of CD34 is phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. Dysregulation of CD34 is associated with diseases such as dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
