Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein with a molecular weight of 111–115 kDa, expressed on various stem cell populations. It functions as a stem cell marker and may act as a surface receptor involved in adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors. CD34 expression reflects specific hematopoietic developmental states and may mediate interactions with the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells. It may also serve as a scaffold for glycans, facilitating binding to lectins and selectins. The intracellular domain can be phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. CD34 dysfunction is associated with dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
