Target Information
SPACA3 (sperm acrosome associated 3), also known as sperm lysozyme-like protein 1, lysozyme-like protein 3, or cancer/testis antigen 54 (CT54), is a 215 amino acid protein involved in sperm–egg plasma membrane adhesion and fusion during fertilization.
It is expressed in testis, placenta, and epididymis, and exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms:
- Isoform 1: Single-pass type II membrane protein of the sperm acrosome
- Isoform 2: Secreted protein
SPACA3 may act as a receptor for egg oligosaccharide residues (N-acetylglucosamine) and has been identified as a potential cancer/testis antigen capable of eliciting B-cell immune responses, making it a potential target for immunotherapy.
