Target Information
Aquaporin 4 (AQP4), also known as mercurial-insensitive water channel, localizes to the sarcolemma of fast-twitch muscle fibers in skeletal muscle. Aquaporins (AQPs) are integral membrane water transport channel proteins that facilitate water movement through the cell membrane. This function is conserved across animals, plants, and bacteria. Multiple isoforms (AQP0–AQP10) exist in mammals, often co-expressed within the same cell. While most aquaporins are selective for water, AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript also transport urea and glycerol.
