Product Specific Information

This ICBTACLS monoclonal antibody reacts with the hormone insulin, responsible for regulation of carbohydrate and fat metabolism. Insulin secretion from pancreatic beta-cells within the islets of Langerhans results in uptake of excess glucose from the blood into organs and its storage in the form of glycogen.

Patients with type 1 diabetes have autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta-cells, resulting in insulin deficiency and elevated blood glucose. Type 2 diabetes patients exhibit insulin resistance, where insulin becomes less effective at reducing blood glucose levels.

Insulin also plays roles in vascular elasticity, cognition, learning, and memory.

The ICBTACLS antibody recognizes human, mouse, and rat insulin.

Applications Reported: Suitable for western blotting, immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections, and microscopy.

Applications Tested:

  • IHC (Paraffin): ≤ 0.25 µg/mL using low or high pH antigen retrieval
  • Western Blot: ≤ 5 µg/mL using non-reduced pancreatic tissue lysate
    It is recommended to titrate the antibody for optimal performance.

Purity: > 90%, determined by SDS-PAGE
Aggregation: < 10%, determined by HPLC
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered

Target Information

Insulin is a peptide hormone secreted by beta cells of the pancreatic islets. It regulates carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism by enhancing membrane transport of glucose, amino acids, and certain ions. It promotes glycogen storage, triglyceride formation, and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids.

Insulin is a 51-amino acid polypeptide produced from proinsulin, which is cleaved into two chains (A and B) linked by disulfide bonds and one molecule of C-peptide. Insulin deficiency results in diabetes mellitus, a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Insulin is also found in insulinoma, tumors of β-cell origin.
