Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family, which act as mitogens for mesenchymal cells. The receptor’s ligand specificity determines whether the functional receptor forms a homodimer or heterodimer (α/β). Knockout mouse studies show that PDGFRA is critical for kidney development, as heterozygous mice exhibit defective renal phenotypes.
