Target Information

Thymidine phosphorylase (also known as PD-ECGF or gliostatin) is a platelet-derived endothelial growth factor.
It catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate in the presence of inorganic orthophosphate.
This enzyme is chemotactic and mitogenic for endothelial cells and acts as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor present in platelets.
It is also involved in the conversion of fluoropyrimidines—cytotoxic agents used in cancer therapy—into active cytotoxic metabolites.
