RET 유전자는 세포 성장 및 분화 신호를 전달하며, 세포유전학적 재배열에 의해 종양유전학적 활성화를 겪을 수 있습니다.
RET 유전자 변이는 다음 질환들과 연관되어 있습니다:

  • Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type IIA 및 Type IIB
  • Hirschsprung Disease
  • Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma

두 가지 전사 변이가 확인되었으며, 추가 변이들의 생물학적 유효성은 아직 확립되지 않았습니다.
