This antibody detects endogenous levels of total SPTBN1.
Target Information
Spectrin (Sp), the most abundant erythrocyte membrane skeleton protein, maintains the biconcave shape and flexibility of red blood cells. It consists of a 280 kDa alpha subunit and a 246 kDa beta subunit forming a 100 nm rod-like structure. Non-erythrocyte spectrins (fodrins) are composed of homologous subunits (alpha-2 and beta-2). Newly introduced nomenclature designates erythrocyte subunits as alpha-1 and beta-1, and fodrin subunits as alpha-2 and beta-2. Alternatively spliced forms are designated as epsilon variants (e.g., beta-1 epsilon-1).
