RNA polymerase II는 mRNA와 다양한 비암호화 RNA의 합성을 담당하는 효소입니다. POLR2A 유전자는 RNA polymerase II의 가장 큰 소단위인 B1 (RPB1)을 암호화합니다. RPB1의 C-terminal domain (CTD)은 YSPTSPS 서열의 반복으로 구성되어 있으며, 이 서열 내의 인산화 및 기타 변형은 전사 주기를 조절하는 인자들의 결합에 영향을 미칩니다. 특히 Serine-2 및 Serine-5 잔기의 인산화는 RNA 처리 인자들의 전사 신장 복합체로의 모집을 조절합니다.
