Target Information
MaxiK channels are large conductance, voltage- and calcium-sensitive potassium channels essential for controlling smooth muscle tone and neuronal excitability. These channels consist of two subunits: the pore-forming alpha subunit and the modulatory beta subunit. The protein encoded by this gene acts as an auxiliary beta subunit that slows activation kinetics, increases calcium sensitivity, and shifts the voltage range of activation to more negative potentials compared to the beta 1 subunit.
