Target Information

Epithelial sodium channels (ENaC) are amiloride-sensitive members of the Degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (Deg/ENaC) superfamily of ion channels. These channels have two short intracellular termini, two transmembrane segments, and a large extracellular loop with a conserved cysteine-rich region.
ENaC isoforms (α, β, γ) are expressed in kidney, lung, and colon, playing a key role in sodium and fluid balance. They mediate aldosterone-dependent sodium reabsorption in the distal nephron, contributing to blood pressure regulation.
Mutations in ENaC subunits can cause disorders such as Liddle’s syndrome (gain-of-function) or pseudohypoaldosteronism type I (loss-of-function).
