Target Information
The semaphorins are a family of proteins involved in signaling. All members have a secretion signal, a 500-amino acid sema domain, and 16 conserved cysteine residues.
Sequence comparisons group secreted semaphorins into three classes, all possessing an immunoglobulin domain.
The semaphorin III family, including human SEMA3A, chicken collapsin, and mouse semaphorins A, D, and E, features a basic domain at the C terminus.
Chicken collapsin contributes to axonal pathfinding during development by inhibiting growth cone extension through interaction with CRMP62, a homolog of the UNC33 gene product.
SEMA3F is a secreted member of the semaphorin III family.
