Product Specific Information

The MFL3 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse Fas (CD95) Ligand, a 40 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the TNF family. FasL is expressed by activated mouse T cells and induces Fas-mediated apoptosis through interaction with its receptor CD95.
Human FasL can be cleaved by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) to form a 26 kDa soluble variant; sensitivity of mouse FasL to MMPs has not been reported.

Target Information

CD178 (Fas ligand, FasL) is a type-II membrane protein with its N-terminus located in the cytoplasm and C-terminus extending extracellularly. It binds to its receptor FasR, a type-I membrane protein of the TNF receptor family, to induce apoptosis.
CD178 exists in both membrane-bound (45 kDa) and soluble (26 kDa) forms, the latter generated by metalloproteinase cleavage. Binding of CD178 to Fas triggers receptor oligomerization and apoptotic signaling.

Expression and Function:

  • Predominantly expressed in activated T-lymphocytes and NK cells
  • Found in immune-privileged tissues (testis, eye) and organs like thymus, liver, ovary, lung, heart, and kidney
  • Involved in antiviral immune responses and immune regulation
  • Associated with inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis and hypertension
  • Plays roles in pathologies including AIDS, hepatitis, and cancer
