Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor regulating T and B cell signaling via dual ITIM motifs. These motifs, upon phosphorylation, serve as docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases.
CD31 is widely expressed in the vascular system, primarily at cell junctions, and its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, crucial for cell–cell interactions.
It plays roles in integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, immune regulation, autoimmunity, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis, making it a key molecule in vascular biology.
