Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The specific ligand bound determines whether the receptor forms a homodimer or a heterodimer with PDGFR beta. Knockout mouse studies indicate that PDGFRA is crucial for kidney development, as heterozygous mice display defective kidney phenotypes.
