Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • For formalin-fixed tissues: heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 min.
  • This antibody shows broad species reactivity and does not react with Mouse.

Target Information

Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It plays a role in intracellular protein transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane. Vimentin, along with desmin, is expressed during early cellular development and later replaced by tissue-specific intermediate filament proteins. It is implicated in steroid synthesis regulation by acting as a storage network for cholesterol-containing lipid droplets. Phosphorylation of vimentin triggers cytoskeletal rearrangement facilitating cholesterol transport to mitochondria, enhancing steroid synthesis.
