Target Information
Serum albumin is a globular, unglycosylated protein (~65 kDa) and the main protein component of plasma. It binds water, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin, and drugs, playing a key role in maintaining the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Albumin is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage to proalbumin and then to the mature, secreted albumin form.
