Target Information
Serum albumin is a globular, unglycosylated protein of approximately 65 kDa and is the main protein in plasma. It exhibits strong binding capacity for water, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin, and drugs. Its primary function is to regulate the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Albumin is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage of the N-terminal peptide and conversion to proalbumin before secretion as mature albumin.
