Target Information
Serum albumin is a globular, unglycosylated protein of approximately 65 kDa and is the major protein component of plasma. It has a high binding capacity for water, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin, and drugs. The primary function of serum albumin is to regulate the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Albumin is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage to form proalbumin and finally the secreted mature albumin.
