Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and assist in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein and 25% rRNA composition, opposite to prokaryotic ribosomes. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack 5S rRNA. The MRPS11 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein homologous to ribosomal protein S11P family members. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 20, and multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
