Target Information
RNA-binding factor involved in multiple aspects of cellular processes such as alternative splicing of pre-mRNA and translation regulation. Modulates alternative 5′-splice site and exon selection and acts as a muscle cell differentiation-promoting factor. Activates exon skipping of PTB pre-mRNA during muscle cell differentiation and antagonizes PTBP1 to modulate muscle-specific exon selection of alpha tropomyosin.
Binds to intronic pyrimidine-rich sequences of TPM1 and MAPT pre-mRNAs and is required for translational activation of PER1 mRNA in response to the circadian clock. Suppresses Cap-dependent translation by binding CU-rich elements within 3′UTR of mRNAs, enhanced under stress or during myocyte differentiation. Recruits EIF4A1 to stimulate IRES-dependent translation initiation under stress and associates with AGO2-containing miRNPs for miRNA-guided RNA cleavage and translation suppression. Prefers binding to 5′-CGCGCG[GCA]-3′ motif in vitro. [UniProt]
