Product Specific Information
Antibody detects endogenous levels of MITF only when phosphorylated at Ser516.
Target Information
Mi is a basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper (b-HLH-ZIP) transcription factor involved in pigmentation, mast cell, and bone development. Mutation of Mi causes Waardenburg Syndrome type II in humans. In mice, loss of pigmented cells in skin, eye, and inner ear occurs, along with osteopetrosis and defects in natural killer and mast cells.
Two isoforms of Mi differ by 66 amino acids at the NH2 terminus. Shorter forms are expressed in melanocytes (52 kDa, 56 kDa), while longer forms appear as bands at 60–70 kDa in osteoclasts, B16 melanoma cells, mast cells, and heart.
