Target Information

ATP2C2, also known as secretory pathway Ca²⁺/Mn²⁺-ATPase (SPCA2), is a P-type cation transport ATPase. This magnesium-dependent enzyme catalyzes ATP hydrolysis coupled with calcium transport from the cytosol to the Golgi lumen.
Defects in the related gene ATP2C1 cause Hailey-Hailey disease, which ATP2C2 does not compensate for, suggesting distinct physiological roles. ATP2C2 shows restricted expression and higher maximal turnover for Ca²⁺-ATPase activity, with lower affinity for cytosolic Ca²⁺. Overexpression in mammary tumors induces Ca²⁺ influx via ORAI1, independent of STIM1/STIM2 sensors.
