Target Information
SERCA2 ATPase is one of the SERCA Ca(2+)-ATPases located in the sarcoplasmic or endoplasmic reticulum of muscle cells. It catalyzes ATP hydrolysis coupled with calcium translocation from the cytosol to the sarcoplasmic reticulum lumen, regulating muscle contraction and relaxation. Mutations in this gene cause Darier-White disease (keratosis follicularis), an autosomal dominant skin disorder characterized by loss of cell adhesion and abnormal keratinization. Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
