Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, ESA)는 약 40 kDa의 막관통 당단백질로, 상피세포의 부착 분자로 작용합니다.
Ep-CAM은 칼슘 비의존적인 상동성 세포 부착을 매개하며, c-myc, cyclin A, E 등의 유전자 발현을 유도하여 세포주기, 증식, 대사에 영향을 줍니다.
Ep-CAM 발현은 상피세포의 분화 및 성장에 영향을 미치며, 과발현 시 상피세포 증식이 증가하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
Ep-CAM은 인간 암종에서 높게 발현되며, 상피계 종양의 마커로 사용됩니다. 대부분의 단순 상피와 다양한 암종에서 기저측 세포 표면에 발현되며, 선암종과 흉막중피종을 구분하는 표지자로 보고되었습니다.
