- By Western blot, PA1-183 detects a prominent ~42 kDa protein in human, mouse, non-human primate, and rat whole cell lysates.
- For visualization of actin filaments by immunofluorescence, fixation and permeabilization with methanol is required.
Target Information
Beta actin is one of six actin isoforms identified in humans. It is a non-muscle cytoskeletal protein expressed in all human cell types, involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity.
Beta and gamma actin coexist in most cell types as components of the cytoskeleton. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) forms filamentous actin (F-actin), a two-stranded helix structure.
Because beta actin is ubiquitously expressed, it is widely used as a loading control in protein detection assays such as Western blotting.
Antibodies to beta-actin are valuable tools for studying intracellular actin distribution and cytoskeletal dynamics.
