Product Specific Information

The OKT8 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD8a molecule (32–34 kDa), expressed as a heterodimer (CD8αβ) or homodimer (CD8αα). It is found on most thymocytes, subsets of mature T cells, and NK cells. CD8 binds MHC class I and associates with p56lck, playing a role in T-cell development and activation.

This antibody has been validated for flow cytometry, pre-titrated for use at 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test, defined as staining a cell sample in a final volume of 100 µL. Cell numbers typically range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD8 (Cluster of Differentiation 8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family. It functions as a co-receptor with the T cell receptor (TCR) for MHC class I molecules, aiding in T cell activation and differentiation. CD8 is mainly expressed on cytotoxic T cells, some NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells as CD8αβ heterodimers or CD8αα homodimers. Interaction with MHC-I/peptide complexes triggers Lck recruitment, leading to cytokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs are critical for pathogen and tumor cell clearance.
