Target Information
HIF-1 beta (ARNT) is an aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator gene product. Hypoxia plays a critical role in human diseases such as myocardial and cerebral ischemia, cancer, pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
HIF-1 is a nuclear protein involved in oxygen homeostasis and forms a heterodimer with HIF-1 alpha. Under normoxic conditions, HIF-1 alpha is hydroxylated and degraded, whereas under hypoxic conditions, its stability and transcriptional activity increase. HIF-1 beta remains stable regardless of oxygen levels.
Diseases associated with HIF-1 beta dysfunction include hypoxia and renal cell carcinoma.
