Target Information

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, causes illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress.
The CoV Spike (S) protein is essential for viral attachment, fusion, and entry, making it a key target for antibody, inhibitor, and vaccine development.

The receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) within the Spike protein binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, with SARS-CoV-2 RBD showing higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD.
S1 contains the RBD, responsible for binding to ACE2, while S2 mediates membrane fusion.
The full-length Spike protein (1273 amino acids) includes a signal peptide (aa 1–13), S1 subunit (aa 14–685), and S2 subunit (aa 686–1273).
The S-ECD corresponds to the extracellular domain of the Spike protein.
