Target Information

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a virus responsible for illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The Spike (S) protein is crucial for viral attachment, fusion, and entry, making it a key target for antibody, inhibitor, and vaccine development.

The Receptor-Binding Domain (RBD) in the S1 subunit binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, showing higher affinity than the SARS-CoV RBD.
SARS-CoV-2 S protein consists of:

  • Signal peptide (aa 1–13)
  • S1 subunit (aa 14–685) – receptor binding
  • S2 subunit (aa 686–1273) – membrane fusion

The S-ECD represents the extracellular domain of the Spike protein.
