Cyclin E는 세포주기 동안 단백질 발현의 주기성이 뚜렷한 cyclin 계열의 구성원입니다. Cyclins는 CDK kinase의 조절자로 작용하며, 각기 다른 cyclin은 고유한 발현 및 분해 패턴을 보여 세포 분열의 시기적 조정을 담당합니다. Cyclin E는 CDK2와 복합체를 형성하여 G1/S 전이 단계에서 세포주기 진행에 필수적인 조절 단백질로 기능합니다. 이 단백질은 G1-S 경계에서 축적되고 S기 동안 분해됩니다.
