Target Information
Collapsin-response mediator proteins (CRMPs) are highly expressed in the developing brain and play major roles in axonal outgrowth, neurite differentiation, and apoptosis. Their expression in regions such as the cerebellum, hippocampus, and olfactory system suggests involvement in adult brain plasticity.
CRMP-1 was initially identified as a dihydro-pyrimidinase expressed exclusively in the brain and is associated with neurotrophin (NT) 3-induced neurite formation and outgrowth. Localization of CRMP-1 shifts from axonal to somatodendritic as neurons mature, indicating roles in neuronal differentiation and survival.
