CAPS2와 관련 단백질 CAPS1은 신경 및 내분비 특이적 세포질 및 주변막 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이들은 시냅스 소포 프라이밍 기계의 필수 구성 요소로, Ca²⁺-조절 분비소포의 외포작용에 필요합니다. CAPS 결핍 뉴런은 융합 가능한 시냅스 소포가 거의 없어 빠른 신경전달물질 방출이 저해됩니다. CAPS2의 다양한 아이소폼이 존재하며, 뇌 내에서 상이한 발현 양상을 보입니다. 예를 들어, CAPS2b는 발달 중인 소뇌에서 높은 발현을 나타냅니다. 또한 일부 자폐 환자에서 엑손 3이 결실된 CAPS2 mRNA가 검출되어, CAPS2의 발현 조절이 신경 발달에 관여함을 시사합니다.
