Product Specific Information
This antibody detects a 13 kDa* protein corresponding to the molecular mass of Bsd on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of 293 cells transfected with a lentiviral vector expressing the Bsd gene product. The band is not detected in mock-transfected cells.

Retroviral vectors are commonly used for gene expression both in vitro and in vivo. These vectors typically contain a gene of interest and a selectable marker gene. Rapid selection without damaging cells is essential for efficient gene expression.
Blasticidin S deaminase (Bsd), isolated from Bacillus cereus, neutralizes the toxic antibiotic blasticidin. Many retroviral or lentiviral expression systems utilize Bsd expression for selection using blasticidin, enabling stable mammalian cell line selection within about one week.
