Target Information
Fibrinogen is the main protein of the blood coagulation system. It consists of two identical subunits that contain three polypeptide chains: alpha, beta, and gamma.
During coagulation, fibrinogen is converted into fibrin by thrombin, leading to fibrin polymerization.
The resulting fibrin clot is digested by plasmin, releasing fibrin degradation products (including D-dimer) into the bloodstream.
