STAT5 alpha는 STAT 전사인자 패밀리에 속하며, 사이토카인 및 성장인자 자극에 의해 수용체 관련 키나아제에 의해 인산화됩니다. 인산화된 STAT5 alpha는 호모 또는 헤테로다이머를 형성하여 핵으로 이동해 전사 활성 인자로 작용합니다.
STAT5 alpha는 IL2, IL3, IL7, GM-CSF, erythropoietin, thrombopoietin 및 다양한 성장호르몬 자극에 의해 활성화되며, TEL/JAK2 융합 유전자가 관련된 골수종 및 림프종에서 자극 독립적으로 활성화되어 종양 형성에 필수적임이 보고되었습니다.
또한 STAT5 alpha는 BCL2L1/BCL-X(L) 발현을 유도하여 항아폽토시스 기능을 가지며, 생식, 수유, 면역 및 체성 성장 등 다양한 생리 기능에 중요하게 관여합니다.
