Target Information
STAT3 (Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3) is a transcription factor activated by receptor-associated kinases in response to cytokines and growth factors. Upon phosphorylation, STAT3 translocates to the nucleus and regulates gene expression related to cell growth and apoptosis.
It is activated by IFN-α, EGF, PDGF, and IL-6, and phosphorylation at Tyr705 is essential for its dimerization and DNA binding. STAT3 interacts with coactivators such as CREB-binding protein and transcription factors like c-Jun and CREB.
In humans, the STAT3 gene is located on chromosome 17q, and multiple spliced variants exist. STAT3 knockout in mice is embryonically lethal, highlighting its essential role in development and cellular regulation.
